The Floridians Football Club also known as the Floridians FC or FFC. (formally Fort Lauderdale Schulz Academy) is an American soccer team based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, United States. Founded in 2009, the team plays in the Premier Development League (PDL), the fourth tier of the American Soccer Pyramid, in the Southeast Division of the Southern Conference. The team plays its home games on the Main Event Field at Central Broward Regional Park in nearby Lauderhill, Florida. The team's colors are white, navy and yellow.
The Floridians F.C. is the next step of the Schulz Academy soccer organization, a nationally recognized USL SYL club which won a league national championship in its first appearance in 2004 with the U14 Boys title, and went on to three-peat as U15 and U16 national champions the following two years.
Notable players that were developed within the organization include Matt Luzunaris of Orlando City and Jozy Altidore of MLS club Toronto FC and the US National Team.
On Wednesday, May 20, 2009 the Fort Lauderdale Schulz Academy was announced as a USL Premier Development League expansion franchise, joining the league in 2010. The team played its first competitive game on May 7, 2010, a 1-0 loss to the Bradenton Academics.
USL had issued a news release regarding the Schulz Academy joining the PDL. At the time, USL’s Executive Vice President and COO Tim Holt was “thrilled to welcome such a successful youth program as the Schulz Academy to the PDL ... Their proven track record in developing players, including US National Team star Jozy Altidore, speaks for itself. The club is a model organization in the Super Y-League and we are confident they will be an asset to the Southeast Division of the PDL.”
The club was headed by founder Dr. Josef Schulz, recognized as one of the top youth coaches in the Country. Notable players that have been developed within the club included Matt Luzunaris, Hasani Sinclair and CJ Phelps of the U18 US Men’s National Team; Donovan Henry, Zach Herold, and Stefan Jerome of the US U17 Men’s National Team; and US National Team and Toronto FC striker Jozy Altidore. Academy founder Josef Schulz died of cancer on July 22, 2013.
With the sad passing of its founder and main character, Dr. Josef Schulz, the Ft. Lauderdale Schulz Academy was left orphan and without guidance, but not for long. A fusion of the Schultz Academy and the AC Miami was used to create the Floridians F.C. who are very proud to be able to continue the great history of football in the Miami Metropolitan Area and to continue the legacy of excellence of the Schulz Academy.
Arriving with overflowing ambition and excitement the Floridians F.C. yearns to continue and surpass the ambitions of Dr. Joseph Schulz and be the “perfect platform to prepare the top young talent of Southeast Florida combined with the international players that aspire to compete at the highest levels of the game.” It is because we believe in the South Florida talent and Dr. Joseph Schulz’s vision that the Floridians will be selecting an experienced staff, and recruit only the best young talents in the ages of 16-21 with realistic chances to become professional players in the future to be part of our exciting project.
The Floridians F.C. are leaving no stone unturned to bring the best talents to South Florida and establish strong partnership with professional players and clubs around the world. The Floridians F.C. who will be competing in the PDL league of the USL have established their home base at the Central Broward Park Stadium. The stadium, conveniently located at the heart of the Tri County Area offers easy access from the whole Miami Metropolitan Area, has a capacity of 15,000 seats and has the capabilities to welcome the tournaments and the many events the club will be hosting ...
On December 20, 2013, the Academy merged with AC Miami to create Floridians FC and take the place of Schulz Academy in the USL PDL.
